Door games are the comedic overture of a Chinese wedding morning: the bridesmaids barricade the door and the groom's party must earn entry through challenges, flattery, and red envelopes.
The best versions are tightly produced. Four challenges, fifteen minutes total, one bridesmaid running the clock. Anything longer and you are eating into the tea ceremony.
A reliable structure: one physical challenge, one taste challenge, one knowledge quiz about the bride, and one performance. The groom sings; the groomsmen suffer alongside him.
Keep it edible and dignified. Sour, spicy, and bitter samplers are funny. Anything that ruins a suit, risks injury, or embarrasses someone in front of parents is not.
Write the quiz questions with the bride two weeks out, and warn the groom that the answers matter. First date, her order at the family restaurant, her mother's hometown.
End on a scripted beat: envelopes under the door, a promise read aloud, the door opens. Tell your photographer this is the moment, because hallways are dark and it happens once.
